The Makeup Changes To Make As You Get Older
As we age, our makeup needs change, it’s important to adapt our routine
When you feel your products are no longer working for you it’s time to reassess
Getting stuck in the same routine, and using the same products, is normal. We never really think about our makeup until you hit a point where you are looking at yourself and feeling unhappy with the results.
You may be thinking you are not looking the way you used to, your products are no longer settling on your skin like they used to, the colours seem off and feel like they are aging you. But its OK, its just a sign that you need to reassess what you are using and finding the products that are now elevating you, giving you that fresh look.
Addressing new and different skin concerns are a way of life, but we can adapt to these changes by selecting new products and colour tones that will flatter you and give a boost to your confidence.

Skin Texture Changes: As skin ages, it tends to become thinner, less elastic, and more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Switching to products with a more hydrating and dewy finish can help create a smoother, more youthful look. Dryness and Dehydration: Mature skin often becomes drier due to a decrease in natural oil production. Using makeup products that contain moisturizing ingredients can help maintain a healthy, hydrated complexion.
Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Makeup can settle into fine lines and wrinkles, making them more noticeable. Lightweight, liquid-based foundations and primers specifically designed to fill in fine lines can help create a smoother appearance.
The first step you can take to improve your routine is to move away from powder foundations and start to use a liquid or cream. Face powder is still OK to use in your routine but being more strategic with it is key. Using powder lightly dusted in areas that have a shine is the only time I use this on mature skin.
Next you want to switch out your powder blushers and bronzers for liquid or cream formulas. This will help your skin to look softer and refreshed.

Eye Area Concerns: The skin around the eyes becomes more delicate and may show signs of aging, such as crow's feet and sagging. Using cream-based eyeshadows, gentle eyeliners, and a good under-eye concealer can enhance the eye area without emphasizing these concerns.
Using powder eyeshadow is absolutely still OK, but if you have crepey skin that bothers you switching to a cream eyeshadow will be better. For darkness under and around the eye you want to select concealers that are light and hydrating so not to draw attention to the fine lines.
Products I recommend:
Cream Eyeshadow
Concealer
Eyeliner
Loss of Radiance: Mature skin can lose its natural glow and appear dull. Using highlighters and products with a luminous finish can bring back a healthy, radiant look. The best way I find to use luminous products is before foundation after applying moisturiser. You will notice a beautiful dewy effect coming through your foundation.
For that extra glow and dewiness, mix a little bit of product in with your foundation.
Products I recommend:
Natural looking eyes: you may find brown mascara to be a more suitable option as it provides a softer, more natural look compared to black mascara. This can be particularly flattering as it enhances the lashes without looking too harsh or heavy, which can be more suitable for mature skin.
Black mascara can sometimes appear too stark, especially on lighter skin tones or those with lighter hair. Brown mascara complements these features more gently. Brown mascara, especially if it's a gentle formula, can be less irritating and more comfortable to wear.
Products I recommend:
Lip Changes: Lips can become thinner and develop fine lines. Using lip liners to define the lips, hydrating lipsticks, and avoiding very matte formulas can prevent feathering and keep lips looking fuller.
My tip if you are concerned about your lips getting thinner is to slightly overdraw with your liner. This will create the illusion of slightly fuller lips.
Products I recommend:
Lip Liner
Lipstick
