What Are The Most Useful Makeup Tips And Tricks?

Unless You Have Had A Makeup Lesson Or Time On A Makeup Counter, Learning Makeup Is Something You Pick Up As You Go.

There are multiple resources on YouTube and in magazines that will pass on some great tips, but getting tips from a professional makeup artist? That’s the best place to get in the know.

Being a professional with years of experience behind me, I have adapted the best practices for applying makeup and share all my tips in private makeup lessons. The knowledge I have picked up over the time I have spent doing multiple makeup applications has given me the opportunity to share what I need to know with you.

So let’s dive in.

  1. Do your eye makeup first.

This is probably going to feel very back-to-front if you do your foundation first. But trust me, this is a game-changer and will save you so much time when doing your routine. One of the reasons to do your eye makeup first is if your eyeshadow crumbles and falls onto your face. Doing the eyes first means you have minimal clean-up to do. The second reason is to allow your skincare to sink in so you are not applying foundation directly to a freshly moisturised base, which can result in streaks in the finish.

  2. Groom Your Brows

Even if it's quickly running a gel or pencil through, you will be surprised at how much more put together you will look. Brows frame the face, so don’t ignore them; tidy brows have a massive impact on the final look.

  3. Invest In A Setting Spray

If you struggle to get your makeup to last, one of the best investments you can make is buying a finishing spray. This will help your makeup last; they are also great for allowing powders to melt into the skin and not look heavy.

  4. Use Concealer After Foundation

It is quite a common question and debate whether you should apply concealer before or after foundation, in my view. Do it after. The reason being that you will be able to see what spot concealment is required. Not all foundations cover everything, but to prevent using too much product, reach for your concealer second. If you use concealer first, then foundation, you will be building up too much product on the skin.

  5. Bronzer Is Amazing For Giving Your Face Shape

How many times have you done your foundation and thought your face looked a little flat and one-dimensional? Our natural contours and colouring get erased when we apply foundation, so we want to build structure back into the face. By adding bronzer, you are bringing warmth back to your skin and shape. Matte bronzers are most flattering all over where the sun naturally hits.

  6. Blush Application Top Tip

Try to keep your blush application very light and on your cheeks; avoid the apples of your cheeks, as they naturally drop on your face as you age, creating a dragging down effect. After applying your blush, whatever you have left over on your brush, sweep it over your forehead and temples, which will pull your look together. It will tie in the colouring on your face and bring life to the final look.

  7. Only Powder Where Needed

It’s easy to go overboard powdering your makeup in place, but you could end up looking dry, textured, and cakey. Unless you have oily skin and need to powder your whole face, keep it to the centre of your forehead, very lightly under your eyes to set concealer, on the bridge and side of your nose, and on your chin.
