Best Makeup For Women Over 60

Best makeup for women over 60

What is the best makeup for older women?

Let me help guide you through the best-discovered products

For years, helping women discover the best makeup products has been a great honour. I understand how it can be a struggle to adjust your makeup routine when it is overwhelming with the wide choice of makeup available. Let me share with you the best makeup for women over 50, 60, and 70 that I have discovered over the years.

Tailoring makeup routines to enhance your skin and to help you feel like the best version of yourself is what I do best.

From foundation, to eye makeup, to choosing the right blush colour, below are the products that I have found suitable for maturing skin.

Best makeup for women over 60

Let’s start with foundation, which tends to be a tricky area for most women. A lot of clients struggle to find the right formula, finish, and something that lasts.

  • L’Oreal Age Perfect BB Cover: This creates a smooth and naturally dewy finish on the skin. It can be applied lightly or built up to create more coverage. When blended well with a brush in a thin layer, this will not settle into lines and wrinkles. In my experience, this covers skin redness well.

  • Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick: This is a cream formula that smooths onto dry and normal skin with ease. Best applied from the stick swept onto the skin, then blended in with a firm foundation brush. You will achieve natural-looking coverage with a skin-like finish that has a slight dewiness to it. You will not need too much of this product to create great coverage.

  • Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Le Teint Foundation: If you want to achieve a more luminous finish to your foundation and you have normal to dry skin, this foundation has a beautiful, healthy glow. You will achieve good medium coverage, which will help to disguise redness on the skin. I would recommend using a face powder on the t-zone of your face to take away any excess shine.

Concealer is usually the one product I find missing in women’s makeup bags. Mostly because it is not seen as essential or because there is confusion about how it should be used. I feel that concealer is a must-have for everyone. This is the perfect product to use under the eyes to help conceal dark circles, redness left on the skin if your foundation does not provide complete coverage, and blemishes.

  • Bobbi Brown Creamy Corrector: This is your pre-concealer prep product if you have dark circles. A peachy/salmon shade will neutralise the dark tones and take the edge of the shadow you see. Using this corrector first will brighten under the eyes and will help your concealer to work at its best.

  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: A very affordable concealer that performs and provides coverage where needed. This is a hydrating formula which will never look drying under the eyes. This concealer works well to cover under eye darkness, as well as redness on the skin.

  • L’Oreal True Match Concealer: Another affordable concealer which I rate. This also provides great coverage and will not look drying under the eyes.

Powder is not a product I would recommend using all over the face; it can look dry and ageing. But when used strategically in certain parts of the face, it is a worthwhile purchase. I tend to use powder over concealer to set this in place and take away any dewiness, so attention is not drawn to the under eye.

I would also use powder to take away areas of shine in the middle of the forehead, the nose, around the nostrils, and on the chin. These are the areas where light tends to bounce off the face and draw attention.

  • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder: Pressed powders can be a little too heavy on the skin so you will need to use small amounts. This pressed powder is one of the best that I have used, this blurs the skin subtly so the finish of your foundation looks better.

If you are not already using a blush in your makeup routine, now is the time to start. Please do not be scared of recreating redness in the skin if you suffer from patches on your cheeks. Blush creates a different flush of colour.

Blush will bring a healthy flush of colour to your skin. You will notice as your skin changes you will start to lose your natural colour, and will appear more pale. When you apply foundation it can take away all of our natural skin tones so it is important to put definition and a lit from within colour back into our complexions.

Bluher can help you to look more radiant and healthy.

  • Milani Baked Blush: This is one of my favourite formulas for mature skin. Some powder blushes can look too powdery on the skin, but not this one. Originally, the formula was a liquid that was baked into a powder blush. This helps the product smooth onto the skin and look seamless. It is an incredibly affordable product, too.

  • Benefit Powder Blush: The quality of the Benefit blushers is excellent, and you will find that you only need a small amount to create that flush of colour. There is a great shade range suitable for all skin tones, my recommendation is to look at the more peachy, coral tones.

  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Blush: If you prefer a liquid to a powder, the tinted moisturising blushers are beautiful. They are hydrating on the skin, best applied with your fingers in a tapping motion or directly onto the skin with your finger and lightly blended into the skin with a brush.

Bronzing is what I would deem an optional step in your makeup routine; however, I do feel that it can look beautiful on the skin, creating warmth and shape after applying foundation.

Bronzer is used to create the same effects as a sun-kissed glow from the sun. This would be the perfect step for summertime, but also to adjust your makeup routine for a more special occasion.

  • Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Bronzer: Hands down, this is my favourite product to use on clients, but it can be a little tricky to get hold of at times. Similar to the Milani Baked Blush, this also started as a liquid product baked into a powder. The application of this product is easy and looks smooth on the skin. It is what I would call a hybrid finish; it is not overlay matte, but not too radiant, a lovely satin finish.

  • Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer: If you prefer not to have a sheen or radiance to the skin, the matte Benefit bronzer will be perfect for you. It is highly pigmented, so you only need a light hand to apply this bronzer.

  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Bronzer: I have not yet used this product on clients; however, it is on my purchase list. I already love the tinted moisturiser blush, so my expectations of this are the same. A beautiful, natural-looking finish that brings a flush of warmth to the skin.

Eyebrows can be a tricky area for most women, which results in most people ignoring this step. I have some amazing products that make your application much easier.

  • Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil: This is one of the easiest brown pencils that I have used. One end has a handy spoolie to help you brush your brows into shape, but it also acts as a way of blending the product by brushing through your brows as you apply the pencil end. The pencil itself is a waxy-powder that glides onto the skin with ease. You barely need to exert any pressure to get this to transfer.

  • Benefit Gimme Brow: If a pencil is too tricky for you to master, a tinted brow gel is an excellent alternative. This particular gel has fibres in the formula that adhere to the brow hairs you currently have. Not only will you get a tint on the brow, but you will also achieve a fuller brow as the fibres attach.

  • Rimmel Wonder’Full Brow: This is a cheaper alternative to the Benefit Gimme Brow. The gel tint is amazing; the only difference between the two products is there are less fibres in the forumala.

If you would like to create eye makeup but feel a little confused by the options available, these are my favourite products to use.

  • Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Eyeshadow: The eyeshadow quality of this palette is excellent, and the formula helps to blend the shadows beautifully. They are soft and buttery to apply, if that makes sense. I feel that the palette has a good mix of light, medium, and dark shadows.

  • Kevyn Aucoin The Contour Eyeshadow Palette: These are the most recommended eyeshadow palettes for clients. I find these to be the least overwhelming when it comes to colour choices. You get three matte shades in light, medium, and dark, then three complementary shimmers to match. Four palettes are available, so you will need to select the best shade choice for your skin tone, and eye colour.

  • Bobbi Brown Cream Long-Wear Eyeshadow Stick: If you are looking for a very simple eye that will take seconds, a cream eyeshadow stick in the colour of your choice is the best option. Bobbi Brown has great colour options, and will stay in place.

Mascara is more of a personal choice, in my opinion, it is generally the mascara wand that makes all of the difference with how your lashes look. However, these are my personal favourites.

Lipstick is the perfect way to finish off your makeup. It is difficult to advise on colours without knowing your skin tone and colouring, but what I can advise on are the best lipsticks I have found.

  • Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick: The lipsticks from Charlotte Tilbury are really great quality, highly pigmented, and have a gorgeous finish. The colours and formulas from Hot Lips, Hot Lips 2, and K.I.S.S.I.N.G. are absolutely worth the investment.

  • MAC Cosmetics Lipstick: I highly recommend the Cremesheen, and Satin ranges from MAC. The matte formulation also available is a little dry-looking, so I tend to recommend a more sheeny, glossy, satin finish for mature women.

  • Lipcote Lipstick Sealer: If you struggle to get your lipstick to stay in place, my little secret weapon is the Lipcote sealant. It goes on clear, and will dry down within a minute, but it will help your lipstick stay all day, even after eating and drinking.

I have not included eyeliner options on purpose, but if you do want a great eyeliner, the Max Factor Kohl Pencil in brown is excellent. It is a soft pencil that glides onto the lash line with ease. You will find it does not tug at the skin, which makes the application much easier.

The reason for not including eyeliner options is because I believe in multi-tasking products where possible. So if you have an eyeshadow palette with a deep brown or black colour, with the right brush, you can use this as an eyeliner. You will achieve a softer finish on the eyes, and it will be more natural-looking.

I truly hope this post helps you with buying products for your skin, however, if you would like to book in for a personalised makeup lesson, I would love to take you through a routine suitable for you.
