Makeup Lessons For Mature Skin

Is your current makeup routine no longer working?
Has your skin started to change?

Let me help you look and feel your best!

Your makeup should enhance the way you look! Highlighting your best features.

Makeup has the power to take years off you when used in the right way. But when used in the wrong way, it can do the opposite and age you. Discovering the best products to use for your changing skin will make all the difference.

Understanding the most flattering colours will give a healthy radiance to maturing skin.

Adjustments to your skincare routine could be the key in helping your makeup look better. Skincare is an area I like to discuss during a makeup lesson to ensure you are using the best products. We want to get as much hydration into your skin as possible, so you look radiant. Skin can look dull; getting as much hydration into the skin will help.

During a lesson we look at the best products for you to use. This initial step is to identify your most flattering colours. The right colours for your eyes and skin will enhance your makeup and create a harmonious look.

For your eyes, these are the most flattering colours to select based on your eye colour. Have a look at your makeup bag to see if you have any of these shades already.

Brown Eyes:

If you have brown eyes, you are very lucky, as you can pull off most shades. If you really want your eyes to pop, try shades that consist of:

Copper / Gold / Deep Mauves / Pinks / Purples / Dark Browns

Blue/Grey Eyes:

To make blue or grey eyes pop, opt for:

Browns / Earth Tones / Greys & Silver / Lilac / Soft Peaches / Rose-coloured / Burnt Orange / Coppers / Deep Golds

Green/Hazel Eyes:

Most people with this eye colour tend to have flecks of other colours in the eye, so this is a great positive as you are able to experiment with different shades.

Dusky Pinks / Deep Plums / Burgundy / Grey / Mauves / Warm Brown / Earthy tones with hints of Gold, Browns and Copper.

best foundation for mature skin

When it comes to your foundation I recommend a liquid or cream foundation. Powder can look drying, cakey, and ageing. Liquid and cream products tend to be more smooth in their application. For dry skin or dry patches, remember to add in an exfoliating step and focus on moisturising.

Do you feel stuck on what foundations are best to use? I can help you find the right foundation shade and brand to use.

Something I would like you to consider when applying foundation is the way you choose to apply it. If you are using your fingers currently, think about how well you are blending. Try not to treat it like a moisturiser and slap it into the skin; you want to use pressure and massage it into the skin. The better you blend, the better the outcome will be.

You want to be aiming for the foundation to look like "skin,” not foundation sitting on top of your skin. The compliment you want to receive is “Your skin is looking amazing,” not “What foundation are you using?" See the difference? You want people to think you have an amazing, even-toned complexion.

Blushers can make or break your makeup. After applying foundation your face can look a little flat and one-dimensional. You need to bring a little life back to your skin—yes, even if you suffer from redness or rosacea!

Many women are either too wary to use blush as they feel it may replicate redness already present in the skin. Or they have or they are not sure how to use it. Both reasons are valid points, but they should not put you off adding it to your routine.

Like with your eyeshadows, there are certain colours that “enhance” your features. The same goes for lipstick; there are certain tones that look right against your skin tone.

If I could give you five tips now on how to change your routine for the better, they would be:

  1. Invest in your skincare routine. Make changes with how you look after your skin and you will see results with your makeup applies.

  2. Swap to a liquid or cream foundation if you currently use powder.

  3. Only use a concealer under your eyes.

  4. Pick the eyeshadow colours that complement your eye colour; this will make your eyes pop.

  5. Add some colour to your face with a little blush to bring some life into the skin.

Are you thinking that you may benefit from a makeup lesson?

There are many reasons why you may want a makeup lesson, but if you can relate to the below, then you are in the right place and in safe hands.

  • Lack of confidence in what you are doing and which colours to use

  • You know very little about the best products to buy and the various makeup techniques.

  • Going to makeup counters does not always give you the best products because they are all one brand!

  • You are self-taught and have had the same look for the last 10 years or more.

  • You could do with a bit of a refresh or restyle of your makeup.

  • You have plenty of good-quality makeup and brushes but have gotten a bit stuck in a rut with how to use them.

  • You only use a little makeup and feel you need to use more to define your eyes.

  • You struggle with the whole makeup scenario.

Going to a makeup counter is great if you know what you already want. If you are needing help with the application of makeup you are not going to get the experience you are deserve. You are only getting advice on one brand.

Are you receiving the best advice?

This is where a one-to-one lesson comes into its own. Not only will you receive unbiased advice, but you will also get to find out what colours suit you. A personalised touch is for you if you want to create a new and fresh routine.
